Return to Dental Services

We appreciate your selection of our practice for your dental health needs. Dr Arndt, his staff and specialists are equipped to handle a wide variety of family and cosmetic dental needs.
New Patient Exam
Dr. Arndt’s new patient exam is three complete examinations that include checking for decay (cavities), oral cancer screening, and a periodontal exam which is checking for gum disease. Any necessary x-rays will be taken at this time. Dr. Arndt will then design a personalized treatment plan to fit your dental needs. The recommended cleaning may not be done at this time.
Non-Surgical Gum Care
Cleaning your teeth may be as simple as a one visit routine check up. Patients that have been diagnosed with gingivitis or periodontal disease will need anywhere from 2 - 4 visits of scaling and root planing to remove tartar, eliminate infection and achieve healthy gums. This will be determined at your first visit with Dr. Arndt.
Sealants
When adult teeth develop, grooves form in the chewing surfaces of the enamel. These grooves are called Pits and Fissures. These are great places for plaque to hide and are impossible to keep clean. By placing a thin covering over the grooves, we seal out the plaque and food decreasing the risk of decay.
Infection Control
Our office has developed an Infection Control Program that exceeds OSHA standards for dentistry. Use of Autoclave heat sterilization and disposable products ensures your safety. Ask any staff member for a tour of our sterilization area.
Fluoride
The protection that fluoride provides helps prevent tooth decay at any age. Fluoride also helps re-mineralize enamel weakened by early cavity development. Fluoride can also help control tooth sensitivity.
Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and Root Planing is a more advanced removal of tartar and the smoothing of the diseased root surface. We reach further below the gum-line to clear away any tartar and bacteria that can be causing infection. This procedure can be done with local anesthetic and can take anywhere from 2 – 4 visits. By removing the disease causing tartar and irrigating deeper pockets with anti-microbial wash the goal is to encourage reattachment of the gum tissue and arrest the progression of bone loss.
Soda Pop Mouth
Sweetened soda pop is to teeth as cigarettes are to lungs! Today a 12 ounce can of pop is standard and a 20 ounce bottle is common. It has no nutritional value and all it's calories come from sugar. This sugar combines with bacteria in your mouth to form acid. Diet or sugar-free pop contains it's own acid. Acid, whether it is formed by sugar or not, is the primary cause of weakening tooth enamel. The acid attacks your teeth, each attack lasts about 20 minutes. The acid attack starts over again with every sip! One can of soda that you sip over several hours can be just as damaging as drinking 2 or 3 cans. Always drink in moderation, and don't sip over long periods of time. Swish your mouth with water after drinking soda to help dilute the sugar, and stick to healthy alternatives such as milk or water. Check out the chart for the acid and sugar content in your favorite soda pop.
